Why reflux reverses the order
Protein first lets stomach acid act on it directly; vegetable fibre then absorbs the excess; starch goes last so it does not provoke the heavy acid secretion that triggers reflux. It is the same mechanism solved in the opposite direction for a different goal.
In Practice no dieting, no change in portions
- Start with low-starch vegetables — broccoli, spinach, tomatoes — for about five minutes.
- Wait about ten minutes so the fibre layer can form in the gut.
- Then eat the protein — meat, fish, eggs, tofu.
- Leave the starch — rice, noodles, bread — until last.
- Strict separation is not necessary; the principle is simply that starch does not go first. Fruit raises glucose quickly and is best not eaten in quantity on an empty stomach, and eating too fast weakens the satiety signal.

In summary
It costs almost nothing and carries almost no risk, so it is worth adopting. But a balanced diet overall still matters more than the order things are eaten in — the two are complementary, not alternatives.
